Opening a Document in Word 2000

I have a file saved on a floppy disk. It was saved at work (also word 2000). When I try to open the file on my home computer, the word application locks-up. The cursor is locked as the capital I. It does not respond to the mouse buttons, although it will move with the track ball in the mouse. I have to go to the task manager to close word. The task manager shows that the program is not responding. Is there anything in Word that may be preventing the file from opening properly? Are there any changes to the program I can make to allow it to open and usable? I need this document printed by 1:30 PM today (12/25/03).

NEVER try to open a Word document directly from a floppy disk, and
NEVER save a document directly to a floppy from Word. Always copy the
document from the floppy to the hard drive, work on it there, and then
(after closing Word) copy the file back to the hard drive.

The reason is that Word needs to open temporary files in the same
folder as the opened document, and a floppy will fill up very quickly.
Too often, trying to do that will corrupt the document so you lose it.
