"... opened by someone else" error

I have an error message popping up when I try to acquire a photo that says,

FAILED TO OPEN DOCUMENT
Unable to read form C:\Documents & Settings\default\My Documents\My Pictures\Bowl Test 1.jpg, it is opened by someone else.

Does anyone have any remedy for this condition?

The message usually means exactly what it says - the image file is already
opened somehow.

How are you trying to acquire the photo? "Acquire" usually refers to the
proces of downloading a photo from a camera or importing a scanned image
into a program. Cameras and scanners will often launch their own software
for the initial access to the image. Save the image to the hard drive,
close any special software involved. Then open the saved file with your
preferred application.

Since your message is already referring to a file name with an extension,
it sounds like the image has already been saved but is still active within
a program. If you close out that active image, you should then be able to
open it again with any program capable of reading a JPG file.
