Opencube menu and explorer: bug? Mistake of mine?

www.info-radiologie (non-commercial site) was originally wrtitten with
frontpage 2003 and utilized web buttons from ms (frontpage2003). There are
two parts in the web site: one dedicated to radiology; the other (private) to
scuba diving. The part dedicated to radiology utilize menu from open cube.
Previous (back) and forward buttons from internet explorer 6 doesn’t work
properly. Firefox, opera and netscape (mac) works properly. The part
dedicated to scuba diving was left with MS button. For this part IE works
properly. You will find scubadiving -top right menu -under the french word
"Divers" and bottom "plongee sous-marine"

Any idea about this problem?

Do I blame opencube, microsoft or me?

Thanks in advance for answers

Best regards

françois

I had no problems in IE6 using your menu and then the back / forward browser buttons

Hello,

Some people complain about this problem. Personnaly I wotk with firefox.

In other english frontpage.client newsgroup (see that) they were not able to
work with the back and forward button from ie6. No solution founded.

In the french newsgroup they were also not able to work with the back and
forward button from ie 6. They didn't find any solution.

In an other american forum, same thing. They suggest to recode the browser
with a simple js command like history.go(-1). But I'm only
physician......and have no idea about js.

Until now no word from microsoft switzerland....

I'm very curious about your version of ie, windows,....

best regards

WinXP Pro
Works in Firefox but not IE6

Hello Rob,

Thanks for the answer. That's also my findings..
However opencube denies any problem.... and S.B. Rusynko does not agree with

It happens with other pages too..Carte du site for instance.

Honestly, I don't know. I have a feeling it's something in the javascript
but I'm just a beginner with javascript so I can't really troubleshoot.

Plongee in Switzerland?

With IE6 running on Windows XP Pro, and IE6 running on Windows 2003 Server,
I had no problems navigating any part of your site, using the menu at the
top of the page, FrontPage interactive buttons, or the menu in the left
column (where it appeared), and the Back / Forward buttons worked correctly
on all pages visited.
The only way to stop the back/forward buttons working is to open a page in a
new window - Shift key + click on link.
Some pages (those with the left column menu) have JavaScript errors, but
this did not effect the navigation or back/forward buttons.

Hello,

Do we talk about the same thing?

I had no problems navigating using the menu at the top of page, or the menu
in left or frontpage interactive menus.

Many people complain the back/forward button of IE6. I checked myself. In
local, no problem. Through www it doesn't work. Then I check blank space, m
instead M,...
This morning for some pages I change button "sitemap" by hypertext link
(because under this kind of button thre are some js code). etc....
The only new window I open is"notice legal". I delete it for some page. no
change!
Opencube told me: "You have coding errors in your webpage such as the
following:
onload="FP_preloadImgs(/*url*/'button504.jpg', /*url*/'buttonA16.jpg')". I
delete the buttons for some pages. No change. In addition for the scuba part
it works.

Like I said before for the radiologgy part back and forward buttons FROM
INTERNET EXPLORER 6 (NOT the menu) do not work.
When I click on back button (FROM INTERNET EXPLORER), it looks for
http:/info-radiologie/z. This page doesn't exist.
When you click two time on the back button and then on forward button (FROM
INTERNET EXPLORER 6), you get http 404 not founded (info-bulles).

For the scuba diving part back and forward buttons from IE6 works properly.

In frontpage 2003 no problem

Firefox, opera, netscape (under mac): no problem.

However at least in switzerland more 70% utilize internet explorer 6.......

Something interferes with opencube menu but what is this?

Please if we speak about the same thing could you give me your version of
IE6, xp sp1,sp2?

thanks in advance for answers

We are are talking about the same thing. The Back and Forward buttons in
the browser Toolbar.
I repeat, apart from the JavaScript errors mentioned, I have NO problems
navigating your site, using the menus, Interacticve buttons, links, or the
Back/Forward buttons in the Browser toolbar.
Is there a specific page that fails? The pages that Rob mentioned work OK
for me.

Same here IE6, on Win XP SP2
- no one can guess which pages / links you are claiming to have problems with
- be specific providing the specific links (by name from which page URL) you are testing

Hello,

The server has whatever options we want.... (including for frontpge)
internet explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
windows ef 5.1 numero 2600 xpsp_sp....
frontpage 2003 11.5516.5606
opencube 5.2
dell 4550

I go to www and get home page info-radiologie.ch.
back button (white/green) - forward grey
then go to "examens" and click "mammoraphy"
back button (white/green) - forward grey
then I click on bak button (internet explorer )
get "retour à http://www.info-radiologie.ch/z
forward button (from IE 6) becomes green/white
if you click on you get "avancer à HTTP 404 non trouvé"
You can go through the radiology part of the web sites with the open menu,
read 1,2,3,4,5,... pages and then want back one page with IE 6. You get the
same problem.

It doesn't happen with firefox

Somebody told me if we click eleven time on the back button we can get the
previous page.

When I go to http://www.info-radiologie.ch/materiel_plongee.htm and click on
the left blue buttons from frontpage, back and forward buttons work properly.

I was in Paris. We have not the same keyword than in France. It was XP
professional edition. Same problem with German -> idle.
This is very reproductible, consistent....
I double check now and I got it!

When I watch pages INSIDE (locally) frontpage with IE 6 I get the classical
warning but I can get the previous page (back button can become green), but
never forward button become green.

This problem is so consistent, "reproductible" that I would like to know the
differences between our configuration...

thanks
best regards

Is there a specific page that fails? The pages that Rob mentioned work OK

I delete it for some page. no
change!
Opencube told me: "You have coding errors in your webpage such as the
following:
onload="FP_preloadImgs(/*url*/'button504.jpg', /*url*/'buttonA16.jpg')". I
delete the buttons for some pages.

I go to www and get home page info-radiologie.ch.

Yes
back button (white/green) - forward grey
Yes

then go to "examens" and click "mammoraphy"
back button (white/green) - forward grey
Yes

then I click on bak button (internet explorer )
get "retour à http://www.info-radiologie.ch/z

No - I get "Back to informations sur la radiologie" in the tooltip
and return to Home Page http://www.info-radiologie.ch/
when clicked. I have no idea where the /z in your link came from.
forward button (from IE 6) becomes green/white
Yes

if you click on you get "avancer à HTTP 404 non trouvé"

Hover on the Forward button - I get "Forward to mammographie" in tooltip.
Click - I get the mammographie page.

In the radiologie site, I have no problems with IE6 on either of my
computers.

My Windows 2003 IE6 is set to high security - it will allow JavaScript, but
no active X or Java.
My Windows XP Pro SP2, IE6 is as it came when the operating system was
installed, it will allow anything except popups and Java (I have no JVM
installed).

I can see nothing wrong with your pages.

See inline below
- again no errors w/ forward/back and never a link to broken page from them
Before doing Any testing clear your browser cache

The only things that affect the browser are IE and OS
OS: Win XP Pro Build 050301-1519 SP2
IE: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Plus any Addins to IE you may have installed will affect your browser

| Hello,
|
| The server has whatever options we want.... (including for frontpge)
| internet explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
| windows ef 5.1 numero 2600 xpsp_sp....
| frontpage 2003 11.5516.5606
| opencube 5.2
| dell 4550
|
| I go to www and get home page info-radiologie.ch.
| back button (white/green) - forward grey

What do you expect from forward
- it will always be grey untill you have navigated someplace back at least once forward
And presume for back button (white/green) you mean not grey (active) - since your colors may be unique to you

| then go to "examens" and click "mammoraphy"
| back button (white/green) - forward grey

That is normal for forward (inactive) and back active)

| then I click on bak button (internet explorer )
| get "retour à http://www.info-radiologie.ch/z

| forward button (from IE 6) becomes green/white
| if you click on you get "avancer à HTTP 404 non trouvé"
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| This problem is so consistent, "reproductible" that I would like to know the
| differences between our configuration...
|
| thanks

Well some people complain about that and also found the problem I mentionned.
And in addition in the file error log I can see:
"Wed Oct 26 04:23:37 2005] [error] [client xxxxxxxxx] File does not exist:
/u/web/xxxxx/z.
and I'm pretty sure this guy has clicked on the back button from IE 6"

In the access log I found the letter z, but no error:
xxxxxxxxx - - [26/Oct/2005:05:51:15 +0200] "GET /z HTTP/1.1" 404 207
"http://www.info-radiologie.ch/travaux_scientifiques.htm" "Mozilla/4.0
(compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)"

In the refer log I found also
http://www.info-radiologie.ch/t_rayons_X.htm -> /z

I don't know about this letter z when we click on the back button from IE6?
For some reasons and at least for some people, explorer look for a file z
when we click on the back button.

Any additional ideas? Any suggestions?

thanks
best regards

Yes

then I click on bak button (internet explorer )
get "retour à http://www.info-radiologie.ch/z

Hello,

Do we talk about the same thing?

I had no problems navigating using the menu at the top of page, or the
menu
in left or frontpage interactive menus.

Many people complain the back/forward button of IE6. I checked myself. In
local, no problem. Through www it doesn't work. Then I check blank space,
m
instead M,...
This morning for some pages I change button "sitemap" by hypertext link
(because under this kind of button thre are some js code). etc....
The only new window I open is"notice legal". I delete it for some page. no
change!
Opencube told me: "You have coding errors in your webpage such as the
following:
onload="FP_preloadImgs(/*url*/'button504.jpg', /*url*/'buttonA16.jpg')". I
delete the buttons for some pages. No change. In addition for the scuba
part
it works.

Like I said before for the radiologgy part back and forward buttons FROM
INTERNET EXPLORER 6 (NOT the menu) do not work.
When I click on back button (FROM INTERNET EXPLORER), it looks for
http:/info-radiologie/z. This page doesn't exist.
When you click two time on the back button and then on forward button
(FROM
INTERNET EXPLORER 6), you get http 404 not founded (info-bulles).

For the scuba diving part back and forward buttons from IE6 works
properly.

In frontpage 2003 no problem

Firefox, opera, netscape (under mac): no problem.

However at least in switzerland more 70% utilize internet explorer
6.......

Something interferes with opencube menu but what is this?

Please if we speak about the same thing could you give me your version of
IE6, xp sp1,sp2?

thanks in advance for answers

:

With IE6 running on Windows XP Pro, and IE6 running on Windows 2003
Server,
I had no problems navigating any part of your site, using the menu at
the
top of the page, FrontPage interactive buttons, or the menu in the left
column (where it appeared), and the Back / Forward buttons worked
correctly
on all pages visited.
The only way to stop the back/forward buttons working is to open a page
in a
new window - Shift key + click on link.
Some pages (those with the left column menu) have JavaScript errors,
but
this did not effect the navigation or back/forward buttons.

For the radiology part of the web site where we find the opencube menu
the
back and forward buttons from internet explorer 6 do not work
properly.
For the scuba diving part where we find the dthml buttons from
frontpage
2003 the back and forward button work properly
