I purchased a refurbishes dell laptop and a tech. put
windows 2000 on it for me. The problem is...all I am
trying to do is pay for something online (which I did all
the time on my other computer) but I get the message "open
with" and I dont know which to choose. I dont have much to
choose from. So, do I need to download something to "open
with"? This happens alot when I get email with an
attachment that needs to be opened. but, I cant open it
because I dont think I have the program on here to open
with. Very easy problem.......but driving me nuts!!! help
..

When you get a message like this, it means one of a couple
of things. If you were to get an Excel spreadsheet (for
example) and didn't have Excel installed on your computer,
you would not be able to open the file. The most likely
reason that you are getting this is that you don't have
the application installed to open this file. The other
would be that you don't have a file extension associated
with that file type. Start with the first and see how you
make out.

Hope that helps

Hi,
What would happen on your other computer when you clicked on the link?

If you can't figure out which application to open with, and it is a small file,
try using Notepad. Often LST files are simple text 'lists' or reports. If the
file appears full of garbage then you need to find the proper application.

I think you've answered your own question. Install more programs.

Do you know the 3-character filename extension (.txt, .doc, .pdf, .zip)?
