Hi, I have just started to have a problem, when I click on an Icon on my
desktop, I get the OPEN WITH Window, and I highlight I.E. to open this
particular program, place a checkmark in 'Always use the selected Program to
open this kind of file'
But when I go to open that program the next time, it asks again what to
open it with. I am running Windows XP Pro with Service Pk 2
Thanks for any help

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

I understand you cannot associate a program with IE. Please correct me if I
am off base.

Please help me know the exact program which you want to associate with IE
and the file type of the file which you need to open with IE. I would like
to suggest you following the below steps to check the file association.

Check the file association.
==============================
By default, Internet Explorer checks to see if it is the default browser
each time it starts. If Internet Document (HTML) files are associated with
a different browser when Internet Explorer starts, Internet Explorer
recognizes that it is not the default browser and prompts you to make it
the default browser.

To determine which program Internet Document files are associated with in
Windows, follow these steps:
1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the File Types
tab.
3. In the Registered File Types box, click Internet Document (HTML). Check
the file association in the "Details for HTML extension" field, verify that
it shows "Opens with: Internet Explorer".

Hope the information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

Hi , I have done what Jason suggested, and the HTML File is set to open
with I.E. All my icons on the desktop used to open right away when clicked
on, and they opened with I.E. now when I click on any icon Google etc!! the
Open With window comes up, and asks 'Choose the program you want to open
this file with. I click on I.E, check mark the always use, it opens, but I
have to do that every time. I am sorry, I meant open file, not program

Have you installed and been using a browser other than IE (e.g., Firefox)?

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults: Is IE
your default browser here?

IE Tools > Internet Options > Programs > IE should check to see whether it's
the default browser: Checked?

Assuming you're posting from the problem machine (WinXP SP2), is it fully
up-to-date at Windows Update?

Hi PA Bear,
Yes!!! I had been using Mozilla Firefox, and I am fully
uptodate with WinXP SP2. done what you told me to do, now everything
working as before. I thankyou so much.
