"Open With" Menu selection doesn't execute...

I haven't needed "open with" via shift+right click in a while so I'm
not sure how long it's been like this...

Whether I SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK or just RIGHT CLICK it doesn't matter. I
get the following menu:

No idea how a sub menu flyout got there. :-/ I can click it, but
nothing happens at all.

Yet, if I go though Folder Options and File types, I can click
'Change" and up it pops:

I did a pretty comprehensive Google Groups search and found the same
issue:

Following some of the advice I found from that thread I went to:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_o.htm#openwith

I read and followed instructions. It did not help.

For some reason the executable associated with the right click menu's
Open With got messed up. What is the command that executes when one
clicks "Change" within the File Types menu? And...how can I get the
right click context to execute that same bit of code?

While I can go into File Type and change the actual association, this
is a major hassle.

Sometimes I just need to open files with different programs. .htm
files sometimes with IE6 and others with Dreamweaver 6.1, .jpg
sometimes with ACDSEE and other times with FireWorks MX.

Seems the right click menu is messed because a right click alone
should just bring up Open. Shift + Right Click should allow one to
see "Open With" in the menu...as I recall...

So...how can i fix this? I have no problems going into the registery.

My system is otherwise perfectly stable and has no problems at all.

TIA

Can you be more specific? I'm posting via USENET. I tried searching
MSDN but didn't find anything.
