Hi,

If you right click on a filename a submenu appears with an "Open
Other..." option. How can you add programs to the Open Other list?

Thanks
Barry

Right click a file, point to Open With and then click Choose Program.

Programs lists the programs that Windows has registered. Click the program
you want to use to open the selected file. If the program you want is not
on this list, click Browse.

Open With--Recommended Programs list
Under Programs, click the program in which you want the file to open, or
click Browse to locate the program you want.

Open With--No Recommended Programs list
Under Programs, click the program in which you want the file to open, or
click Browse to locate the program you want. You can also type a comment
that provides information about the file type. This information will appear
in the folder window under Details when you view the file in a folder.

To ensure that Windows always uses the same program to open the file, or any
other file with the same file name extension, in the Open With dialog box,
select the Always use this program to open these files check box.

Browse button
[[Click to choose another program. You'll be able to browse through the
folders on your computer.]]

Always use this program to open these files
[[Specifies that the next time you open this file, or any other file having
the same file name extension, you want Windows to use the program that you
specify here.]]

If the program you want is not on the list or on your computer, you can look
for the appropriate program on the Web.
[[Click this link to search the Internet for a program to open your file.
The link connects to the Windows File Associations page on the Microsoft Web
site. You must have an Internet connection to use this link. ]]

The link opens...

You can NOT imagine the frustration that Copy To/Move To interim
choices that come up, has bothered me, nor the research I've done
in trying to even get anyone to understand it, let alone know
anything about it! And suddenly, there it is: Right there in
black & white!!

Not that it's any help<G>, but it at least looks like it's NOT a
system "error" as such, so ... that's good at least. I find it
very handy to use, so I've kept on using it since nothing else
went "wrong".

The referenced blog explaining a few things is unavailalble, so
perhaps you can tell me:
If it's not intended for the contect menu, WHERE IS it
intended for?
I don't think I've seen it offered as a feature anyplace
else, so what/where would it be located?

[[The "Copy to Folder" and "Move to Folder" options weren't designed to be
on the context menu. They were only meant to be placed in Explorer's
toolbar.]]
What goes wrong when you add "Copy To" to the context menu

All references I gave are available, though the third takes a bit of
time to display.
Please try again.

Same error as yesterday; get a couple cookies, accept them, it
sits there for over a minute, then this comes up. I have to
assume I'm OK: no problems of any kind elsewhere.

Try removing the colon at the end of the URL. First time I
tried it failed. Removed colon went right to the site.

Huh; interesting.

That was me added the colon in the email above: I just checked
my History and the colon isn't there, so ... . Just for grins,
tried again and made sure link was exact; it is; it's just
sitting there doing nothing right now after I accepted the
cookie. Zero bytes were transferred in either direction after
the cookie was sent, escept ofr my keep-alive.
Since you say you're getting there OK, I've been fiddling a
bit, but with no success. It's not a problem I can't access that
particular URL, but it's a possible problem if there are links I
can't get to that I don't know about.
It's slightly different this time: Instead of the error
message, it's been sitting there connected, apparently supported
by my keep-alive, doing nothing for over 5 minutes now. Other
than the keep-alive, zero bytes are flowing to/from it. Time to
abort it.

I thought about HOSTS file and the firewall, but then I wouldn't
even get the cookies. Hmmm, unless there's a redirect in there
somewhere that happens after the cookie comes in but that I'm
blocking: I do have a fairly inclusive hosts file.
If that's the case it's more work than I care to investigate
for now; guess I'll just mark it up to an anamoly for now
until/unless I see more evidence of it.

Cheers,

Pop

I didn't give you that link, though it works fine without the colon
you added to the end.
