Hi.. Just "fixed" the file association problem on our
school lab's TS system. It's not really a problem, it's
designed that way. You have to go into the Registry to
fix it. Unfortunately, the book I used to find the
solution I left at school until Monday, and I can't
remember the exact path from HK_LOCAL_MACHINE etc. etc.
etc. off the top of my head. But, I'll give it a shot.
let's see. HK_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft >
Windows > Current Version > Policies > (and now I sort of
lose track but I think it's ) > Explorer. Then look
in the Right pane for the something that says
NoFileAssociation or some such . right-click it and
modify the value from a 1 to a 0. That worked for me.
I had to get *.pps files to associate with PowerPoint
Viewer instead of PowerPoint itself, and I was able to do
it after that. Then I went back into the registry and
changed the value back to "1".
Should you find that a bit too confusing, email me at
(e-mail address removed) and I'll look in the book on
Monday and have it a bit more exact.
Good Luck,
Paul

Hi,
I'm trying to associate a certain file type with a
certain program. When I right click on the file, I select
Open with....
After that I'm able to select the program I wan't, but
the check box "Always use this program to open these
files" is grayed out.
