open windows not showing on task bar

When I minimize an open window, it does not appear on my task bar. I can
retreive it using alt/tab, but no other way. Please help my get the open
windows back on the task bar. I DO have the programs on the task bar, but not
the windows once the programs are opened. Please help.

Tools | Options | View | Show ... Windows in Taskbar.
