Open window reverse order

When I go to open a document, the window opens with all
its contents listed in "reverse" order (Z-A). No real
big deal because I can just scroll backwards or right
click and do the arrange by name and it flips to A-Z...
but why doesn't it open up in this order. Or...how can I
change so it opens correctly? Thanks.
 
File/Open. Click on the bar that says "Name", this will reverse the sorting
order. That's how it should look the next time you go to open a file.

Does this occur in all programs, or just some particular program? What
program?

This happens in all programs except the original
Documents folder...there it is correct, A-Z. But if I
access the Documents folder from any other program it
comes up reversed.
