Open Web - What exactly is it?

Hi group... been lurking a while and toying with FP at the same time.

I've been doing some HTML via Notepad for a while. Just recently tried
taking it to the next step w/ Frontpage.

I'm confused with the "Open Web" option vs. just "Open"... I'm trying to
modify the web page, but can't get the Open Web option to work with my
page. I can open each individual page just fine, however.

I can't use the nagivation links portion of FP, or a few others as it
tells me that I need to open my web page. I've tried pointing it to the
directory of my web page (offline, I don't have it online) but it
doesn't seem to find a file that it likes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance..

FrontPage deals with collections of files in a conecpt it calls a FrontPage
Web, or just more often just a web. With FP, you don't work on files
individually. FP doesn't do things like handle rlative links or image
insertions well without it. Inserting images will result in a reference to
the image using the file:// method which just points to your local hard
drive and is useless when published on the web.

Before you start using the Open Web, you first need to create an empty web
using the File | New | One page web site or Empty web and point FP to where
you would like the new web to be. Best bet is to create a new directory
somewhere. Once the web has been created you can open it anytime using the
File | Open Web. To get your files into the web open it, then use the File |
Import File to bring the files into the web. After you import files, take a
look at the html for the links and the images and see if they are referenced
using file:// in the URL. If so, you can re-insert the images or re-link the
pages to correct this.

Hope this helps,
