Hi,

when I open Internet Explorer and press Ctrl + O (or Ctrl + L) to show the
Open dialog, after entering the URL and pressing Enter the dialog window
freezes for a minute. Even the mouse cursor hides when it's inside the IE
area. After it unfreezes eventually, it works ok.

Have you anybody seen this behaviour? What can be wrong?

Thanks,

Petr

Hi,
This might be a problem with Autocomplete and corruption in the History
folder.

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder and a new one will be created when
you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Or, this might indicate the presence of malware.
See these sites for help:

Hi Don,

I have removed all off-line content, then logged off and logged in as
Administrator to remove History folder of my user and restarted then.

However, I am still getting a long delay on the first usage of the Open URL
window. The same behaviour applies to typing the URL in the Address field of
the browser and also using the Address Panel in the System Tray.

There is a workaround: to go to the address by using my bookmarks in the
Links Panel or the Favourites menu.

My version is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519.

Can I upgrade to any newer version to maybe get rid of this?

Thanks for your reply,

Petr

You have the latest version of IE.
Did you try the anti-spyware sites and programs Don recommended?

Hi Frank,

I have MS AntiSpyware Beta installed together with Symante Norton Antivirus
and the Windows firewall is active. I went through the Don's links and
haven't seen any behaviour that might point to having a spyware in my
computer.

Thanks for your help,

Petr

on my 98 machine i removed KB891711 and internet explorer speed
dramatically improved. I think some of the problems we face are
because of microsoft's updates.
