Hello,

I just switched to Outlook 2002 (on Windows XP) from Outlook Express,
just to take advantage of the calendar, to-do list, etc. I want to
configure Outlook to display the 'Outlook Today' view (with calendar,
to-do list, etc.) when I first open the program, but cannot figure out
how to do it!

In the 'Customize Outlook Today' options, I have checked the startup
option, saved the changes, closed Outlook, reopened, but with no
success for the desired view. It always goes directly to my inbox
view. I checked the options and the startup option definitely IS still
checked.

Am I missing something? Is there something else to do?

Thanks,

Jane

Try setting the option in Tools-> Options-> button Advanced Options... and
see if it holds.

It's probably the shortcut you're using to open Outlook. Some shortcuts are
preprogrammed to open Outlook in the Inbox -- for example, the one that
appears on the Windows XP Start menu. (It's a "check e-mail" shortcut and
it will automatically open the Inbox of whatever mail program you have set
as the default.) Other shortcuts may have a switch added to the end of the
target file path that specifies opening in one folder or another. Check
your shortcut and see if any of the above applies.

Thanks for responding, but I see no switch for this shortcut on the
Properties page. Can I create one? If so, can you tell me how?

I have set the option two ways in Outlook:

- under Tools > Other > Advanced Options, I selected Outlook Today
(and Calendar another try) and it's STILL selected, but won't open it.

- on the Outlook Today page, I selected Customize Outlook Today, then
under Startup, checked 'When starting, go directly to Outlook Today',
but although it's still checked, it won't do it.

I'm thinking it may need something in the registry.... any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jane

Just try creating a new regular Windows shortcut that points to your
Outlook.exe file. It should open Outlook with your preferred setting. You
didn't mention where the shortcut was that isn't working right...
