Open / Save Dialog Box Not Displaying Files in Name Order

My other installations of Windows XP display by default all the folders and
files in alphanumeric order. I have just reinstalled XP on a computer
(brand new hard drive, fresh install) and all of my folders and files are
coming up in some unknown order. In fact, it appears to be most recently
accessed at the top of the list. That is a reasonable order, but I really
want it to be alpha, because I have been using that forever. I can't get it
to change and stay. I don't want to change it every single time by using
the right-click method, as I am now.

Thanks,
Tony

Restore Sort order in Open and Save dialogs

To resolve this behavior, reset the default sort order:
1. Right-click Start, click Explore and then click drive C.
2. On the View menu, click Details.
3. Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the CTRL
key, and then quit Windows Explorer by clicking Close in the upper-right
corner of the screen.
4. Release the CTRL key.
5. Restart your computer.

NOTE: You must perform these steps exactly as they are listed. For example,
do not quit Windows Explorer by clicking Exit on the File menu.

Items in "Open" and "Save As" Dialog Boxes Sorted Incorrectly

This worked for one person, try it...

Neither of these methods worked, but I managed to fix the problem by
simply clearing the "Remember each folder's view settings" checkbox in the
Folder Options, sorting files by name and then applying changes to to all
folders..

Thank you! for responding. I appreciate the response. I decided to try the
options in order and the first one seems to have fixed it for me. If
anything else develops, I will post back. Thanks again, Tony

Keep having fun, Tony.

If you click on "Name" at the top of the right side it will order them by
alphanumerica. If the arrow points up it should be dewscending, with the
arrow down it will be acending (or the other way around if I have that
wrong).

Then I think if you click on Tools > Options and then click on the View tab,
you click the "Apply to all Folders" and Windows Explorer should always
start that way.

I see I made amistake in the previous post. I was thinking of the explorer
file manager. But maybe if you change it there it will change it everywhere
aq list of files is displayed.
