open option for comma separated var file when commas missing?

Excel fails to open a speedfan log file (ends in ".csv") correctly as the
file contains tabs instead of commas. The developer is aware of this and
suggests using ooo instead of ms office. I don't think this will get fixed
anytime soon and I was looking at 2007 excel and seeing if I could change
the open option to where it recognizes tabs as a delimiter. If I rename the
file to end in ".txt" then Excel handles it correctly. I do not want to set
that option as permanent as I would like notepad to open txt files.

Is there an option in Excel to recognized tabs instead of commas in a file
ending in ".csv"?

Instead of renaming the file to .txt, you can use any extension -
like .xyz. Then use File | Open and point to the .xyz file, and the
Data Import Wizard should open automatically, as with .txt files.

Hi,

You didn't say how it was handling the file, but if it is putting it all in
one column. 1. Just open it regularly, 2. Select the resulting column of
data and 3. Choose Data, Text to columns, Delimited, Next, and set the
delimiter to indicate the delimiter.
