I have a local website running and want to open .doc and .xls files from
various in Word and Excel. I have configured the editors to use Word and
Excel, and have checked "open web pages with Office application that created
them". It sort of used Word and Excel, but still with the IE toolbars and
buttons, and only some of my normal Word and Excel buttons.

Can I open them totally as if I had started Word or Excel and opened them
normally?

The open web pages with office applications that created them does not do
what you are expecting it to do. This function only forces FP to open any
..doc or .xls file in the Office application that created them. For example:
if you open a Word document, or an HTML document created with Word,
FrontPage will launch Word and pass that file to it.

You will not be able to change how Internet Explorer handles the document.
All MS Office documents are considered Active Documents. IE is able to find
out what the Active document type is, and open that file in an embedded form
within the IE browser. There is no setting that you can make that will
change this to the best of my knowledge. User who click directly on an
Office document file link (with IE anyways) will always have that document
embedded within the IE browser.

Hope this helps,
