Hello all,

Three problems, probably related:

1. Any link that is set up to open in a new window, or right-clicking and
selecting "Open in a New Window" has stopped working.

2. A link that is sent to me in an e-mail will not open when clicked.

3. The search function in the Start menu does not work.

Very frustrating, please help.

Thanks.

Hi

I also have the same problem on my windows 2000
professional installation with internet explorer 6.0 SP1.

I have installed Ad-Aware 6.0. I think it caused this
problem. I have uninstalled it. Even then the problem
exists.

Please help asap. Thanks in Advance.

Hi there,

Click start, choose Run, type

regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

And click Ok

If you are using Windows XP, then try IEFix, download from here:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm

Furthermore, try reinstalling Windows XP Search :

Open Explorer and go to the C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the
srchasst.inf file. Right click it and select Install.
You'll need your XP CD or the files from the I386 folder.
(This fix will require you to have your Win XP CD).

The Windows\Inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust
your Explorer Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden
files and folders. You can also click Start, Run and enter
%SystemRoot%\Inf to open directly to the Inf folder.

Hi Venkatesh

Thanks for your advice.

I ran the command as suggested by you. I got a message
window with the following message

"DLLRegisterServer in Urlmon.dll succeeded"

But the problem still there.

I will detail the problem below for your clear
understanding.

Any link that is set up to open in a new window, or
right-clicking and selecting "Open in a New Window"
A window is opened. It is transparent (i mean the original
explorer window text and images are still visible) and the
address bar is blank. When I click stop and refresh on
this transparent window then it gets the information.

Request you to please suggest any other solution if
available.

Thanks
Raj

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
