Vijay

Hi,

Since the last 2 days I am experiencing a weird problem
with IE 6.0 (SP 1). When I right-click on any link on any
website and select "Open in New Window", my browser does
nothing. Also I am getting this "Access is Denied" script
error when I try to either Post or Reply on the Microsoft
newsgroups. All this started 2 days back. I am an admin
on my box. Its running W2K server.

Help appreciated. TIA.

Rule out parasites for you other problem.

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).

If this is W2K, I doubt if the reason will be the same, but I recently
suffered the same in W98SE, and for those who happen to have the problem
in this OS, this may be helpful... In my case, it turned out to be the
fault of some idiot software "developer", whose "program" I installed,
and who in his halfwisdom decided to bundle a few XP libraries with the
installer, being too daft to realize that the installer will overwrite
the existing libraries with XP versions that will not work.

For me, the culprit was the library OLEAUT32.DLL. The proper version
2.40.4518 was overwritten with XP version 3.50.5016. A few others were
replaced with useless XP ones, too. I restored them all from the file
OAINST.CAB, from MSIE 6SP1 installation.
