My boss just got back from South Africa today and while
there was trying to connect to the internet with his
laptop at a hotel. He tells me he followed the
instructions (which he didn't bring back with him), but
wasn't able to connect.

Now, he's back and when he's logged onto our network and
opens IE a dialog box pops up saying that he's offline and
asking if he wants to dial-up to connect to the internet.

When I'm logged in as administrator I can connect to the
internet just fine. I've searched through everything and
can't seem to find a "switch" to fix this.

I'd appreciate any help.

Hi Amy,

Sounds like Internet Explorer is in Offline mode and set to Always dial my default
connection" with the default being that connection your boss tried to configure while
in South Africa. Try opening Internet Explorer, and then clicking Work Offline on
the File menu to remove the check mark. Then choose Internet Options from the Tools
menu, select the Connections tab and choose the same configuration that works when
you are logged in as administrator.

And if the above does not work I suggest that you post in an Internet Explorer
newsgroup. Your message header seems to indicate that you are posting from the
Microsoft Communities Web Page. So below you will find a link to the main Microsoft
Communities Internet Explorer Newsgroups Web Page. Start there, then in left-side
pane click on the link for your version of Internet Explorer.

If you read newsgroups using a NNTP newsreader such as Outlook Express, and
use the msnews.microsoft.com news server, here is a link to the IE6 newsgroup:
