Since getting my new PC, any time I try and open an Access database that is
stored on the server, I get an error message:

Open File - Security Warning
Do you want to open this file?
Publisher: Unknown Publisher

Available options: Open or Cancel

Choosing 'Open' goes ahead with opening the database but I am unable to open
it at the same time as my colleagues.

I was using Office 2000 on Windows XP but have recently upgraded to Office
2003. The error message is the same.

Opening databases that are stored on my local hard drive are no problem.

Is this something to do with file sharing, security settings or what? Any
thoughts and/or advice will be most welcome. Thank you.

You didn't mention which OS you're running ... since this is a new PC, I'd assume Vista.

You may not have the correct Windows Permissions set on the Folder hosting the database. Your user or Group will need
Read/Write/Create/Destroy permissions on that folder (as will all other user who need to access the database).

If this IS a Vista machine, then you'll need to add those network locations to your Trusted Sites/Zones list ... this
can be done from within Internet Explorer:

Click Tools - INternet Options
Click the Security Tab
Select the Trusted Sites zone
Click the Sites button and add the database location to this zone

I'm using Windows XP, it's only Office that has been upgraded.

I was using Windows XP on my previous PC with no problem so I don't think
any permissions were changed by the IT administrator. I assume it's a setting
