With only Windows XP and Outlook 2002 running, as I try
to access my contacts list I repeatedly get error
messages or fatal error messages stating that I must
first close open dialogue boxes. It results in my having
to end task and back out of Outlook to try again.

I run Norton Anti-Virus and keep it updated
automatically. I also use the MS XP firewall.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem and
what can be done about it?

Please keep you answers simple.

Thanks

You first.
Access your "Contacts List" how?
Were you ever able to access your Contacts and if so, what did you change
just before you started getting the error messages?

In Outlook the majority of time that I select the address
book icon from either 'Outlook Today' or 'Inbox' screens
I get an error message that says "MS Outlook has
encountered a problem and needs to close"...and then asks
if I want to send an error report to MS or not. I
generally do send the error report.

From the 'New' email message screen, when I select the
address book icon I either get the same message as above,
or "unable to complete the operation. A fatal error has
occured". When I close that box, and then close the box
asking if I want to report the problem, my computer locks
up and I have to ctl/alt/delete to back out of Outlook
because it has locked up on me again.

I know my contacts are still there, because occassionally
I can access them through these steps. However, I cannot
tell you what I am doing different if anything when I am
successful.

This problem began a few weeks ago. I have tried to reset
my 'settings' to an earlier date prior to the problem,
but the problem persists.

Any ideas? (Thanks)
