Open and Save As dialog box - default view

Has anyone been able to make these dialog boxes default to a specific view
type (i.e. detail view) as well as sorting (i.e. Modified Date, descending)?

Windows does not provide a way to do this. You may be able to save the
customizations with third-party software.
