I have 2 people that use the same spreadsheet and I need
to set it up so that when one has it open the other
cannot write to it until it is closed.

Anyone know how to do that in Excel? Version 2000 or
2002.

If these two users are accessing the file from the same location on the same
server, this is how Excel always works. The first user to open the file in
Excel gets a write lock on the file. Other users can open the file
read-only, but can't modify the file.

If your users would be accessing different copies of the same file but on
different servers, it'd be MUCH HARDER to manage this sort of access.
