Open 1996 data base Access program

I recently had a hard drive failure but was able to back up data base.
But Windows XP will not run the program. What can I do to open the
the data base?
 
What version of Access is the 1996 application?
What version of Access do you have on your XP machine?
Do you have Access on you XP machine? If you don't have Access, it will not
run.
Starting with Windows2000, some older applications don't work any more. It
could also be that the mdb of your recovered file is corrupt and won't work
at all. If the 1996 program is an mde, all is lost! If it is an mdb, then I
would try opening a new database in the version of Access you have now,
select File-->Get Extrernal Data-->Import, Select everything and copy it in.
Then, open any code module and compile the code, then do a compact and repair
and try it.
