I upgraded my operating system from W98 to XPPro. Re-Installed Office 2000. When I run Outlook, I get new mail, but all history is gone - contacts, older mail, personal folders, etc.. How can I get this stuff back, (assuming I have to point to something different)? Thanks

Search for pst-files this is were all information is stored. Make sure you
include hidden and system files and folders when searching for pst-files.

Thanks Roady, since I can only find a single .pst file in My Computer (Outlook.pst) and it looks like the one I am using (last modified date = today), should I assume that previous information (personal folders, emails, contacts, etc.) are gone foever?

Very likely indeed. One thing you can do is to log on as an administrator
and do the search again. This is to make sure you have access to all folders
that could contain pst-files.

During the upgrade process if you did a reformat of the hard drive, your data would have been wiped out. I'm not sure how the upgrade handles itself from Win98 to WinXP but under Win98 the My Docs folder is a different area than the My Docs folder under XP. With XP, all the personal info is stored under C:\\documents and settings. Win98 didn't have that unless profiling was turned on

If you didn't run a re-format of the hard drive it's possible that the change of the user info storage could have wiped out what you had before as well. Are you missing other info like Word docs, etc?
