I am awaiting the arrival of an Asus DS sound card which has a replaceable op-amp.From what I have read on the net a decent cheap replacement would be a £5 ish LM4562NA Dual Opamp from National Semiconductor as available from here,

http://www.diyhi-fi.co.uk/opamps.shtml

Trouble is it lists two, a

LM4562NA Dual Opamp from National Semiconductor
(same as LME49860, LME49720) - 8 Pin DIP

LM4562MA Dual Opamp from National Semiconductor
(same as LME49860, LME49720) - SO8 smt

Does it matter which one I buy ?

Would it be a decent cheap upgrade ?

Are there any alternatives that are around or slightly higher in price thta would be a better upgrade ?

Thanks in advance to any audiophile wizards that may answer

You want the first one, the cheaper of the two. This one slots into an IC socket the second one is a surface mount device that has to be soldered in place.

Before you think about upgrading a component you haven't heard yet, wait til it arrives and give it a listen.

Chances are you'll like what you'll hear. In which case don't bother.

I don't know whether the upgrade will make any difference. If your curiosity is really nagging at you, go for it. If not, then pass.

Thanks flops info very helpful. I'm not going to buy one but I will out it on my must have present list for that you know what celebration coming up in the distant future. :D
