No pre-owned games to be allowed for Playstation 3

A PATENT may allow Sony to ensure that no game would be playable from any console other than the one in which it was first read.

Joystiq is reporting that this patent is the source of the many rumours that will mean as much to gamers as DRM is for music fans.

I think Sony are trying to get out of the business ... 'cos they sure are peeving a lot of people off.

What would be the point in that? Copy-protection, yeah, but what if I wanted to take a game to my mates house? How about rental companies? Hows THAT gonna work? Sony will have to either-

A: Make 'special' disks that work on multiple consoles purely for blockbuster etc
or,
B: Kill off game-rentals. Which would cost them more than it's worth.

Still, are we implying that MICROSOFT's business strategies are less monopolistic?! Personally, I'd rather give my money to Sony.... Although I can't STAND playstation controllers. Obviously there is no Japanese word for 'ergonomic'...

i heard rumors about that with the PS2 and i dont think they will do that.

if they happen to go through with it i think it will be a bad move on thier behalf ... say u just baught a game and cant wait to play ... bung it in your friends machine and get home and find out you can't play it ... ooo harsh lol :p

i hope they didnt do this ... maybe make a password or something, but making it only so u can play a game on one console is stupid!

Ok, it's late, Mr Flops is somewhat mildly inebriated, so forgive me....

Sony can go **** themselves :D

I was seriously tempted by a PSP2 but s*d that, think I'll just maybe get a Creative Zen and a good book to kill long plane journeys ;)

How utterly daft! Sony are mad, this is anti-piracy gone crazy. What if it were the same with books? People everywhere borrow books from each other - not for any malicious reason, just plain old sharing. Would they want that kind of terrible behaviour stopped too??!

Ugh. Bureaucracy!
