Hello.

I'm new to XP Pro. In thrashing around, I somehow hid the Status bar from
the bottom of my screen. No Start button. No clock, no nothing.

I'd surely like to know how to get it back.

And I'd like to know what I did to fat finger it...

Press the WinKey (looks like the windows logo and is usually down near the
ctrl and alt keys on a regular keyboard or up in the upper right on some
laptops) and it should popup the menu, right click on the taskbar and select
properties, and untick the automatically hide option. If you can't find the
WinKey you can press CTRL + ESC as well.

Can you get it to show up if you press Ctrl+Esc or the Windows key? These
keys pop up the start menu and that will bring the taskbar into view at the
same time.

Right click on the taskbar once its exposed (or use Control Panel - classic
view> Taskbar & Start Menu Options) and select Properties. Remove check
mark from "Auto-Hide" taskbar and put a check in "keep taskbar on top.."

Another reason for no taskbar showing is running a program in a full view.
Example, pressing F11 with IE as the active program will fill the entire
screen and cover the taskbar. Pressing F11 again returns to the program to
a normal window.

Some malware infections will also diddle around with your taskbar - ending
explorer.exe and/or removing the taskbar. If the missing taskbar didn't
disappear from "fat fingers," you may want to check the system closely for
these kind of intrusions.

The Taskbar may simply be hidden. Check for a thin line at the bottom
of the screen and if available, drag this line upwards with the mouse.
If this does not help: "Taskbar Is Missing When You Log On to Windows"
