I inadvertently dragged a new program I had installed to the desktop instead
of copying it. It removed the program from the "All Programs" listing. How
do I get it back to being included in All Programs?

The same way you placed the shortcut onto the desktop: Simply drag it
back to the Start Menu.

Copy it back to the folder either under your profile directory or all users
directory..

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users
(Then \Start Menu\Programs)

Bruce:

Thanks so much for the quick response. Unfortunately when I try to drag it
back to the All Programs listing the All Programs menu disappears. I was
able to drag it to the Start button and now it appears in my personal menu
listing.

Shenan: Thanks for the quick response. I don't understand your instructions
- not sure how to do the copying you noted or where to find those directories.

I did drag it to the 'Start' button and now it appears among the 8 programs
with icons listed under my name.

Would still like to have it also appear in the listing of 'All Programs" but
not sure if that is still possible.

Open "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer".
Open your "C:\" drive.
Find the directory "Documents and Settings" and double click on it.
Find the directory "All Users" and double click on it.
Find the directory "Start Menu" and double click on it.
Find the directory "Programs" and double-click on it.

Now drag and drop the stuff from your desktop back into that folder.
Click on your start button and go to "All Programs".
You should see what you just dropped there.

All the start menu contains is in two folders:

"C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Start Menu\"
and
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\"

Right click the Start button, Open All Users, then the folders behave as any other
folder does and you can drag & drop or copy any shortcut.

Bruce: Finally figured it out and got it copied back to the correct spot.
Thanks for being understanding and patient.

Shenan: figured out what you were referring to and copied it back using
explorer.

Thanks so much
