Only starting a new thread can get attention?

Is it true that if I respond to a thread created a while ago, my post won't
show among the latest new threads/posts? It will not be noticed, right?
Does anyone know that I just posted to a thread created on June 21?

When I click "recent posts by this user," the posts are not in chronological
order.

Same problem when I key in a user name beside "search for."

Am I missing something? If not, can this be improved?

Thank you for your attention.

It probably depends on how people are reading the group. You can use the web
interface or a newsreader to get here. Newsreader users will probably see more
with less effort.

More info about newsreaders here:

Use a newsreader instead of the web interface.

Thank you, Steve.

Each has its benefits. Wish I could combine the best of both.

When I use "find" under Outlook Express to retrieve my posts, only posts for
two days were displayed. Wonder why.

I'm pretty sure there's a setting that limits the number of posts it'll retrieve at
a time. Try rightclicking the newsgroup and selecting Properties. That'll keep us
busy while we wait for someone to supply the real answer. ;-)

Using the NNTP reader, under Tools, Options, Read, Newsgroup remove the
checkmark from get next (think the default is 300) headers at a time.
Removing this gets you all unread at one time

Before my last post, I already had the following settings under Outlook
Express.

(1) View - current view - show all messages
(2) Tools - option - read - news - get 300 headers at a time

I don't really care if I have to use web interface or Outlook Express but I
just want to achieve the following. I would appreciate guidance.

**Retrieve all my posts (replied or not) and have them display in
chronological order.**

Right now, with web interface, 99.9% of the time I saw all my posts; one
time it missed one post. The problem is the display is not in chronological
order and I have no idea what order it gives me.

Using the find feature under Outlook Express, I only got a percentage of all
my posts despite of the above settings. Beside "received before," I checked
"current date."

I think Google Groups might be the best way to retrieve all your posts and
have them display in chrono order.

I'd use the Advanced Search page.
http://groups.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en You can get there by going
to Google (http://www.google.com), hitting the Groups link, and then hitting
the Advanced Groups Search link.

Put (e-mail address removed)_SPAM in for Author, then select the option to
sort by date. (It's up by the Search button.) That should do the trick.

I wish the MS interface was better. Unfortunately it's not, though.

Hi Epinn,

In Outlook Express the default is to filter, from view, the messages you've read. Search within Outloook Express can also be
affected by your view settings.

To see all of your messages in Outlook Express by date you can do a couple of things.

1. Go to your 'sent items' folder (set the view ther to 'Show all') and click on the date column heading. (This assumes you have
the OE Option setting turned on to save a copy of every message you send in the sent items folder <g>).

2. You cam use Tools=>Message Rules=>News and create a rule that lists messages from you as the find criteria and, if you want
select a color to apply to the ones you right. You can then use that view in any of your newsgroups in Outlook Express to see just
your messages in date or topic order.

Thanks Bob. I'll remember message rule which will be useful when I want to
display messages for a certain date range.

Right now, I don't mind seeing all the messages as long as they are in a
chronological order.

I am lazy to set up any rules and I just do the following which is working
fine for me.

Set OE to View | Current View | Group messages by conversation
and then View | Current View | Show replies to my messages
Then I can click on "sent" to display the most recent threads on top or vice
versa.

It is important to uncheck the option to download xxx headers at a time.
This way I get all the threads. Thanks Michael.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am a happy camper now and I know what I
missed before using web interface.
