Only printing in blue

My printer won't print in red or yellow and anything like
green and lilac will only print blue. Does this mean I
need a new colour cartridge? Somebody said there was a
way of checking the ink levels in a colour cartidge but I
can't find out how to do this. I'd rather investigate
all possibilities before I pay for a new cartridge (very
expensive in December!).

Anybody know how to check the colour quantities?

Thanks!

Yes. Or else the printheads are clogged (less likely.)

If you have one of those three-colours-in-one cartridges,
you've just found out you've run out of yellow and magenta.

Even if you know what the ink levels are, if one or more of
the colours has run out, you have only two options: a) buy
a new cartridge; b) refill the empty chambers. Refilling is
iffy - don't do it without very good advice, as some
printer + 3rd party ink combos are bad.

This is part of the printer driver that you installed when
you installed the printer. If your printer doesn't come
with this utility, you may be able to get one anyway, but
no one can advise you about that without knowing your
printer brand and model, so post them please. In the
meantime, go to the manufacturer's website, and look for an
updated river - if there is one, it may include an
ink-level monitor. BTW, for the ink-level monitor to work,
you must use a bi-directional printer cable.
