only one browser can be opened at a time

I don't know why, but I can only one browser at one
time. If I clikc on a link, I am brought to another page
but my old window closes automatically. This is even so
with pop-up ads. If I go to a website and it has pop-up
ads, only the pop-up ad page will remain and it will
close my other browser. It did not use to act this way.
Does anyone know what's going on?

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
