only first minute of large files play

The first minute plays okay and then the slide button at
the bottom reaches the end prematurely and the video skips
to the end. This occurs with all my large mpg files.

The same problem now occurs in Adobe premier....I'm using
XP Pro.

I've been having the same problem when recording analog 8mm through ATI TV wonder card...??? Ideas?
