Only DC in childdomain broke

Hi fellas,

please do not comment on the scenario - ...

W2k/AD, childdomain DC with Exchange....

The DC broke. They say they have a backup (I hope they have).

Is there a chance to get that DC back online?


a) Install another new DC, restore EXC on it, reconnect MBX's,
reinstall the old DC (it's on a very remote location)
or
b) Just restoring
or
c)do I have do remove that orphaned childdomain and rebuilt it?

Any hints welcome

What does "broke" mean?
What kind of backups? System state & Exchange databases? Online/offline
Exchange?

Much depends on the state of the server now, and what kind of backups they
have.

No more server(s) for this domain. But the domain still exists in the
tree.

So the server is *completely* unbootable?
Got another box you can use to reinstall Windows, install BE, Exchange in
/disasterrecovery mode, and try a restore?

_I_ don't think so, but the people @ site tell me

all that...

But I keep fingers crossed that the backups I get will be ok! The site
is 18 hours travel away.
