Only allows single copy of IE6

Running WinXP Home and IE6 with all service packs and updates applied.
Fairly clean computer with very little adware (4 items) after recent
scan.

IE6 (or WinXP) only allows 1 copy of IE6 to execute at one time. When
I open a new copy of IE6, then it closes the previous copy. If a link
on a page opens a new copy, then the previous copy closes. Ctrl+N
opens new window then closes previous copy. Very odd - I've never seen
this before. There must be a Registry entry that was corrupted
somewhere. How to fix?
Please help.
Thanks,
-jk

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you may have a toolbar or program running which is blocking
pop-up windows- something like Yahoo toolbar, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar,
etc.
The Yahoo toolbar is a very common cause. Uninstalling the Yahoo toolbar
should allow a second window to open.

If you're sure that another program isn't causing this, these links should
help.

I saw this reply in this group already. Does not seem to apply, except
that I could not get the command that re-registered all the DLL's for
IE to work. Is there something missing in the text?

Hi,
Did you type them in correctly?
Example:
regsvr32 [space] /i [space] urlmon
regsvr32 [space] /i [space] shdocvw
You could copy/paste those commands.

If there is a Yahoo entry in add/remove programs, does it expand to show the
Yahoo toolbar?

Try disabling (briefly- as a test) any third party security/ad-blocking
programs or toolbars. Before disabling a third-party firewall, make sure
that the Windows Firewall is on (Control Panel> Windows Firewall.)
