Suddenly, only the Adminstrator account can log on to our
domain! Have restarted both workstations and server, tried
resetting passwords, tried creating new accounts. Still,
only the account named Administrator can log on. A user
account with Admin privilages can't. HELP

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Basically the Active Directory got
corrupted. I ended up restoring from a backup on all the DCs. Things have
been fine since.

Apparantly, this was related to the creation of a child
domain. Once the domain was removed, everyone could log on
again. Why?

Is it a connectivity issue? Perhaps you are using cached credentials. It's
strange you can only use the Admin acct., but you don't need me to tell you
that. Did you notice anything out of the ordinary before this happened?
Did you make any changes to anything? installed new devices?

What did you name the child domain? ...perhaps an object with that name
already existed in the forest?

My guess is that you are in native mode and you did not have a Global
Catalog Server available. See link to KB article. If something similar
happens again, run netdiag /v on a workstation and the domain controller and
dciag on the domain controller. Looking in Event Viewer is always a good
idea also. --- Steve
