Now it would seem I'm an involuntary beta tester for M$.

I noticed this the other day after installing an update [prior to releaseof
ie7]. When opening links that require a new page, it looks like it closesthe
open window, and opens a new window with the new document.

for those that know html opening a link using '_blank' causes a new window with
the links content.

In this case it closes the window with the link, and opens the link in the same
window.

In an effort to let it fix itself [it seems it's going to get worse], I hit
CTRL - N for new window. That failed. same as above only one window now.

I also hit the ie6 on the desktop for a new window. That also failed. It closed
the one open, and redirected to my home link.

I've already checked the tools-internet options-advanced-
reuse windows for launching shortcuts. I have that box un ticked.

Any ideas on what's gone wrong or how to fix it ?
I like plenty of IE windows open. I read faster than the connection.

That was a great fix, now it opens ie's window, but opens it to nothing. Made
no registry changes, just used the

next steps say to check some registry values.

FWIW: At win update the day, it installed 3 updates and I saw somethingre: IE7
pre-release.

I'm thinking maybe a rollback might help.

Does that mean that you downloaded IE7 beta?

Open IE | Help | About Internet Explorer |
What version do you see? Version: 6.0 something or do you see 7 something?

should be 6.

No it was 3 updates in the normal update section.
as for about, that's no longer accessible either. it stops short of loading
anything.
It's now popping itself up when the machine boots to a 1/4 size page. which is
what also happened using the search at m$. it closed all windows, and switched
to a 1/4 size window with the search results. but that's no longer accessible
either.

I just re-installed SP2 hoping that would fix things, but it didn't.

It can no longer access any web site. It just opens with a blank address bar,
and half the icons on the top bar.

options , about, contents, online support, send feedback, is out of order
tools, Internet options, windows update, synchronize, search are out of order.

can't find a page gives me a red x error window and acknowledging closes the
window.

kb912945, kb912475, and kb904942. This is the 3 items recently installed.can't
give you anymore info as this is all the info I have in the add/remove section.
all 3 added on the 12th, 5 added today on the 14th.
These are the items that mentioned something about ie7 pre-release.
Wonder if adding the ie7 beta might not be a good idea since everything
connected with IE6 seems to have gone bad. Hmmm. can't access the web, socan't
get ie7.

the restore section is totally fried. can't access the settings, just a blank
screen.

explorer doesn't seem to be having any troubles.

I suspect only reason this works is that it's Forte Agent, and not OE.

Most other programs seem unaffected also.

Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log

Do you think that you need 912475? Moving to Australia? You might want to
read about all three updates. Especially 912945, see Known issues.
Uninstall any or all three updates reboot and see it that fixes things.

Also...
Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

It would seem the html parser itself is fried. It won't load a html file from
my HD and display it.

Hi,
The Yahoo toolbar could have been causing this.

Here's my standard spiel:
You may have a toolbar or program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo toolbar, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, etc.
The Yahoo toolbar is a very common cause. Uninstalling the Yahoo toolbar
should allow a second window to open.

If you're sure that another program isn't causing this, these links should
help.

Hi,
The Yahoo toolbar could have been causing this.

actually there was a remnant, now you see it, now you don't yahoo toolbar.

I removed it when it 1st got installed. Obviously the removal process isn't infallible.
checked the toolbars installed, no yahoo there. Or google or anything else.

checked the add/remove section, nothing there.
fired up the winstall cleanup, it couldn't see anything yahoo or anythingout of the ordinary.

went back to add/remove and there was the yahoo toolbar, but it didn't have a remove thing.

back to the winstall, no yahoo..

back to add/remove now it has a remove button.

ran that, and had no effect. other than removing it from the add/remove section.

everything else was still trashed.

I figured a week or two back I was going to take that advice on my next OS re-install and have a small system partition for instant restores. Hadto make a 30 gig. the 10 gig disappeared almost instantly.

Now just need something that can back up my 30 gigs to the other drive ona semi weekly basis.
