I somehow managed to get this virus-like ad on my system
and can not get rid of it. It seems to be divided into
many parts and as soon as I get rid of one, another takes
over. AdAware 6.0 finds it but doesn't get rid of it. I
have ZoneAlarm running and also the WindowsXP built-in
firewall. Neither stops it. I have emailed the company
(Casino on Net) to stop the ads but they claim it's not
their fault and blame it on a marketer they were using at
one time.
Regardless, even right now if I click on Search in IE, I
get THEIR search bar - not mine. Their search bar has
default locations for online casinos, viagra sales, etc.
I've got 2 kids that I don't want playing around with
that junk. Can ayone tell me how to purge this stuff from
my system?

I've tried it all and they're still there but thanks for
responding.

Stephen;
Start/Run
Type "msconfig" ENTER
Click Start-up tab.
Look for anything strange and uncheck it (make a note of what you
uncheck in case of problems)
Click OK and reboot, check if issue comes back or is gone.
If issue is gone use process of elimination to determine which one
caused issue.
If not go back and uncheck a few at a time until you determine what
caused the problem.

See this link for descriptions of what the items in msconfig Start-up
are:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm
Near the middle "Full List"

Remember to go back and recheck as necessary.
