ongoing taskbar problem

Last Friday I requested help but all suggestions offered were of no use to me. Let me try to explain in more detail. When I turn my new computer on, the taskbar is empty. I am accustomed to seeing taskbar buttons for various applications such as IE, Word, and email -- in addition to an icon I can select which will automatically minimize all applications for quick access to the desktop.

So there's nothing there. However, as I OPEN various applications, the corresponding icon gets added to the taskbar - along with the entire text (which I don't want). I was told that only the QUICK LAUNCH taskbar is capable of displaying the taskbar button alone with no text... and so that is the taskbar I have selected, but it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. If I right-click in the area of the taskbar where the icons are appearing, I do not get the option 'show text'. To the RIGHT of the spacer, I DO get the 'show text' option.. but that is useless to me because nothing is APPEARING on that side of the spacer.

I am told that the icon which minimizes all windows is only available in the Quick Launch taskbar... but again, I can't make the Quick Launch taskbar work!!! I am slowly going mental over this problem and hope somone out there can tell me how to solve it! Thank you.

try saving all of your files and settings
then log off,
log back on with another account with admin rights ...
delete your old profile
then log out
and log back in using your original username a new profile will
be created
and your task bar icons should have returned

It sounds like what you what and what people are trying to solve for you
are two different things.

What you want is the programs that you have started and now have buttons
on the Taskbar to NOT have any text.

THAT text CANNOT be turned OFF.(the button associated with the running
program)(At least not thru the menus, perhaps in registry but I don't know)

The Quicklaunch Bar purpose is to hold Icon/shortcuts to allow you to
"Quicklaunch" or start a program.

This text MAY be toggled ON and OFF.

If you r-click the Taskbar do you get a Menu? The first entry will be
Toolbars, selecting that the submenu should have Quicklaunch as the last
entry.

Well, at least you sort of understand what I want. I am familiar with the windows command to minimize applications, but the icon that does this for you is only PART of what I'm after.

Yes, I want the icon buttons of my apps to appear.... but I want them to appear the moment I log on, not as I open them one by one. Every computer I've ever had in the past as displayed them on start-up. This has never happened to me before.

Someone said the taskbar is probably corrupted. Great news, considering this is a new machine.

Are you saying that you want the Icons that you use to start the apps to
appear on the Taskbar(Quicklaunch)OR the Program to start all by itself?

If you r-click on the Taskbar do you get a Menu?

The computer facilitator at my workplace tells me the problem lies with my network account and has nothing to do with the computer. Sorry to have troubled everyone.

(He also says the problem cannot be resolved)
