One XP - multiple hardware configurations

Hello everybody!

The following session requires your assistance, any advice posted, would be
greatly appreciated.

I have two computers in two different places, but I run my XP with 1 mobile
rack on both machines. I take the HDD with myself.
I would like to know, how I can set for XP to recognise and apply the actual
hardware configuration? There's a tab in the control panel, where I can give
names to the actual hardware setting shemes, as I saw.
Is it possible to solve, that before starting, XP would offer, which
configuration to utilize?

OR: Can you suggest any other solutions?

I found a four articles dealing with the topic. They seem helpful, but XP
says, it recommends the multiple hardware profile feature for laptops. I'll
make a try, and we'll see then.
