I hope this might help someone.
I posted last week regarding my problem of getting into my main computer.
Having networked my 2 computers ( XP Pro SP 2) I could access the remote
computer no problem, but I was unable to access my main computer from the
remote. Both computers showed up in Network Places etc, however when I tried
to access my main computer it was told that I didn't have permission.

Many people posted with suggestions regarding Guest accounts etc, but they
did not work for me.

Poking about I discovered

Local Security Settings

Local Policies

Security Options

Network Access : Sharing and security model for local accounts - Guest
Only - Local Users Authenticate as Guest.

From the drop down box I selected

Classic - local users authenticate as themselves.

Next time I accessed a log in box appeared. I put in my username and
password and all was fixed!

I hope it works the same way for someone else struggling with this.

Regards

Wilma!!

For XP Home (SP1) peers, you can get rid of the timewasting login as
follows:-

Control Panel/Network Connections
Right click on NIC icon
Click on Properties
Click Authentication tab
Uncheck Enable IEEE 802
OK
