Looks more and more like he used the freeware stuff to debug and
finalise his product.
I hope his chooks all turn into emus and kick his dunny door down!

Not sure what that means (chooks, emus, dunny) [ok, I know what an emu is!]
but why would you be upset he finally decided to stop giving his hard work
away? The new company (lavalys) so far is also giving away a freeware
version and holding some stuff back in the for-pay version. I have no
problem with that. I don't plan on spending any money with them, but they
are free to try out that business model.

Chooks & emus & dunny doors is an old Australian insult. Chooks are
chickens, emus are emus, and a "dunny" is a toilet, particularly an
external "single room" type. The rest is left to your imagination.
It may just be that I am far too cynical these days, but as a
professional (i.e. I get paid to do it) software developer, I _know_ how
hard it is to get a decent beta-testing program under way, when someone
uses freeware as a sneaky way to get their software tested, it pisses me
off.
Yes, there are others who do this sort of thing, but often you can at
least be suspicious. For example, Hotmail Popper had $ware on their
site, so it was no big surprise when it stopped being freeware.
Have you checked the website? Typical hype site.
Cheers,
Gary B-)

Go and look up the meaning of hypocrite. To save you time, here's oneConor said:more and more like he used the freeware stuff to debug and
Selfish bastard.
So he used Joe Public to run a BETA test. So what? Plenty of people
have benefitted and to my knowledge his software has not caused one bit
of harm to any system.
Good on him for finally making a few quid. Perhaps he might be able at
last to have a half decent standard of living. I notice you're a
professional software developer. Does the word HYPOCRITE ring any
bells?
