My home network is so composed:
one US robotics 9107A router connected to a desktop, to an Access
Point and to a network printer.

On desktop (XP Pro)wired to the router
Three laptops (One XP Pro and two XP Home) on the wireless side of the
home network (see Access Point)

Only one Laptop with XP Home is requested to enter User ID to access
the printer or the network.

Can some one help me to avoid the ID request ?

All the computers are protected by a specific password and the network
is secured with Mac Numbers

Thanks
Manlio

Create matching user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need
to be logged into the same account on all machines and the passwords
assigned to each user account can be different; the accounts/passwords just
need to exist and match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS,
EVEN IF ONLY SIMPLE ONES. If you wish a machine to boot directly to the
Desktop (into one particular user's account) for convenience, you can do
this:

XP - Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

If one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple
File Sharing (Folder Options>View tab).

Sorry, but seems not to be exactly as you suggest:
more in detail:
To have the laptop with XP Home able to access through an AP to the
Desktop (with XP Pro),I must set its ID and PW equal to that of the
desktop.
Strange is that a second laptop, always with XP home. has no access
problem, despite it has a different ID and PW.
I have carefully examined the two Laptop, both configuration are very
much similar. Both are MAC Numb controlled by the AP (access point).
The question made me mad .. but ..
Cheers

The MAC addresses have nothing to do with this. You do know that using MAC
addresses as security is pretty useless, right? They are easily spoofed.

Is the XP Pro set to Simple File Sharing? Did you even try doing what I
suggested?

Ensure that for the computer hosting the printer, Simple File Sharing is ON
and that a password is set on the guest account. To do the latter, open a
commandprompt and type:

net user guest <password>

Now, there should be one consistent password for all computers to access the
printer. If this password is cached on client computers it shouldn't have to
be entered repeatedly.

Alternatively, investigate TCP/IP printing, a little more complex to set-up
but vastly less troublesome.

of course the Mac address concerns only the security aspect .. I
mentioned it only to give details about everything. I am not too much
concerned about the possibility to have a break in the net .. who
cares !
As I wrote at first msg, the printer is a NETWORK printer, wired to
the router .. I understand it's a strange story !
Of course I did what you suggested, never reject a suggestion without
trying ..rule n. 1 !
The staff works only if I give exactly the same ID and PW of the XP
Pro desktop.
Simple file sharing is enabled by default on home networking on XP
Pro, for the XP home there is no choice !
Pls don't forget that the second Laptop, with a different ID and PW,
works without problems. The Laptop are both Dell Ispiron ...
It's a crazy thing .. I know I will find out the reason, but will take
time !! :-(((
Thanks verymuch for your time.
Cheers
