One PC on network lost DHCP

I have 4 pc's on my home network, 1 Win 98 hardwired to
Netgear MR 814 v2 router, 1 Win 98 wireless to router, 1
WinXP hardwired to router, 1 Win 2000 desktop hardwired to
router.

Around April 1, 2004, the W2K machine stopped connecting to
the network. It does not appear in Network neighborhood
and I can not ping anything but itself. DHCP shows failed
to start in event viewer.

The PC has an on board NIC. I disabled it in BIOS and
installed a wireless ethernet device, by-passing possible
cat 5 issues. Same result. Note: W2K laptop works
wirelessly in same location where desktop fails.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP. Same result.

I tried to manually start DHCP, got error.

ipconfig/renew gets error

router ip address is 192.168.0.1, ip address on W2K pc show
169.xxx.xxx.xxx.

I looked for static ip address in registry and changed it
to router ip. Same result.

Suggestions?

Try:

1. Make sure NetBIOS and File and Printer sharing are enabled on the
adapter.

2. Use Administrative Tools/Services applet to see if there are any
dependencies listed for the DHCP Client service. If you have or used to
have Norton Anti Virus, see this:

3. Restart the Server service.

4. Expand Services.ex_ from your latest Service Pack to WINNT\System32\

5. If none of the above work, try a repair install - you will have to
reapply service packs and critical updates.
