help!
I have a message in my out box that will not be sent. It won't let me delet
it. I get a unknown error. What to do?

Welcome to the club!
If you are still able to send messages, I'd ignore the error for now.
That's what I'm doing.
Hopefully Microsoft will come out with a patch soon.

I actually had the exact same problem - here is how to fix it (no need for
patches and no need to ignore it)

You have to delete your email account (by going to tools and click accounts,
then highlight and remove your email account) Now don't worry, you won't
lose any of your contacts or your emails in your inbox and stuff. Once that
is done, you will be able to delete the email which is causing you problems,
and don't forget to then go into your deleted items box and delete it from
there as well.

Next go back to tools and accounts, and re-create your email account the
exact same way you did when you first did it (if you are unsure how, ring
your internet provider and they will h elp you). Alternatively, you can copy
all the information before you delete the account in the first place.

Hope you can understand this, cause it worked for me... after Microsoft
tried to charge me $80 for troubleshooting - I troubleshoot my own problem..
jam it! hehe

Deleting my account worked for sending messages from my outbox but it didn't
take care of the outbox message that is "stuck". One message can't be
deleted or moved. When I try to delete or send it I get an error message.

Like CJ, I'm having the same issue....I've got a message that I can't
delete...or send....or do anything with....

any other ideas?

What you can do for now is to ignore it.
Microsoft has not released a permanent fix for this bug.
If it gets to the point where you can't use Windows Mail,
temporarily switch to an alternate mail client, like web mail,
or Microsoft Outlook or the free Mozilla Thunderbird.

When will they have a systemic fix for this outrageous dilema?

I don't think you'll see a fix from Microsoft any time soon. My current
theory, and it's only a theory, is that an anti-virus is causing the problem
by deleting messages as they are saved to the hard drive even though email
scanning is turned off.

Have you tried marking the message as read and then deleting it? That's
what I've been doing and so far it has always worked. Other things:

Try repairing the database with WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail
and one in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New
If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no
messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some
record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they
are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now
just mark them as read and ignore them.

If none of those fixes work for you or you're afraid to try them, use a
different program like Thunderbird, which is free.

I am wondering if anyone has found a simple solution. Everything I am
reading seems a bit complicated and some of them didn't work for me. This
seems insane to pay for a new computer and program and experience these
problems. What does valid account mean anyway?

Please post a verbatim copy of the error message (right-click
on it, copy, paste into a reply to this post).

A valid account is one where

a) the account id is correct
and
b) the password is correct

The last suggestion on that page suggests deleting the entire message store.
If a user does that, then they will lose all of their messages. The user
should rather move all the contents from the message stor to another
directory so that they can recover their messages.
