one host record not resolving?

I have 2 dns servers W2K standard primary and secondary.

For the last 2 days, one of the host records (an mx record) has started
resolving to the wrong address and then of course the mail goes back - and
even worse, it is only happening to a handful of people.

it goes

mail.mycompany.com A xxx.xxx.xxx.140
mycompany.com mx10 mail.mycompany.com

When the person who sent the email gets the message returned on a failure,
the ipaddress it is coming from is xxx.xxx.xxx.3 which is one of my servers,
but not the mail server.

I've deleted and recreated the zone as well, just in case, and this is a
long standing server where no changes have been made on it for absolutely
ages! It just sits there and runs.

Has anyone seen this before and can give me any ideas? It of course is
creating all kinds of havoc!
TIA

It would be helpful to have real info.

nslookup
set type=mx
[yourmailserverDNSname]
What is the responding server and what address is it giving?

Hi - sorry, the last time I posted real IP's I was told not to.

from one outside server I get
Server: helium.bc.tac.net
Address: 209.53.4.130
Name: mail.bloofrog.net
Address: 216.232.86.140
which is correct

Server: mozart.bcit.ca
Address: 142.232.189.1
Name: mail.bloofrog.net
Address: 216.232.86.3
which is not

but on another server it's telling me that the DNS server 216.232.86.3 is
not responding at all!
my DNS server is 216.232.86.3

mail.harcott.net and mail.bloofrog.net have the same IP address and as far
as I can see the DNS is set up the same way. I am having no trouble
harcott.net and nothing but with bloofrog.net

The thing is that I have never had 216.232.86.3 point to my mail server, so
I'm really confused!
Is there anything else I can give you?

bloofrog.net

Server: ns1.digirealm.com
Address: 166.90.244.250

Non-authoritative answer:
bloofrog.net MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.bloofrog.net

bloofrog.net nameserver = dns.bloofrog.net
bloofrog.net nameserver = ns0.xname.org
bloofrog.net nameserver = ns1.xname.org
bloofrog.net nameserver = ns2.bloofrog.net
mail.bloofrog.net internet address = 216.232.86.140
ns0.xname.org internet address = 195.20.105.149
harcott.net
Server: ns1.digirealm.com
Address: 166.90.244.250

Non-authoritative answer:
harcott.net MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.harcott.net

harcott.net nameserver = dns.bloofrog.net
harcott.net nameserver = ns2.bloofrog.net
mail.harcott.net internet address = 216.232.86.140
My upstream DNS servers seem to see this correctly.

Thanks so much for your help.
As it turns out, it's only 2 companies that are having the problem.

Thanks for your help.
