One Excel file causing Windows to shut down

I created a file for someone else with 14 sheets, lots of formulas using IF
and VLOOKUP, and a few simple recorded macros. Recently this file started
crashing on my users laptop, giving a message about "Windows cannot go on
standby . . .". Sorry to be so vague, but that's all I got from my user.
He's prompted to save the file, fortunately, but after saving, it shuts down
completely. He uses the file primarily on his USB memory stick, but
sometimes from it's network location. There doesn't seem to be any
consistency to the shut down, sometimes when he's actively using the file,
other times it's open, but idle. Our IT department reloaded Excel, but the
problem still exists.

Any suggestions/answers are appreciated.

Hi,

Your file is probably corrupt. If necessary, I think you can try a
utility called Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel xls file. It
works rather well for my corrupt Excel xls files. Its web address is
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ It works rather well although it is not
free.
