Hi,

I have been able to send lots of different people email today but every time
I try to send to this one person it fails to go out. I even copied and
pasted the contents into a brand new email but still no go. Any
suggestions?

Thanks,
Nancy

Any error message? If so, copy it and paste into a reply here.

Hi Gary,

Here's most of what it said ... without the personal email addresses ..."The
message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct
for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to
Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having
problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper
server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

.... Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '551 not our customer', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 551, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

I had just written to them this afternoon with no problem but later in the
day it just won't go.

Unfortunately you removed some critical information from the
error message, the server name. So I'll give it my best guess.

I see your ISP is Comcast. Make sure your settings are identical
to what Comcast says they should be:
http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=Emailtop17686
Note in particular the use of port 587, which is contrary to what
you have (port 25).

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the help however this is not making matters better. Both the
person I am trying to send to, and myself are Comcast. In fact I changed
the setting to port 587 and then nothing would go out. Even the one email
in question. I changed it back to 25 and at least the rest went out ...
just not the one email. This is not making sense to me. How could that
number respond differently to different people I try to send to? AND how
could it be fine yesterday at one point and change without me doing a thing
to it, a few hours later?

Thanks again,
Nancy

Perhaps port 587 didn't work for you because you didn't implement
other settings on that page I referenced, such as the need to have
"My server requires authentication checked." I'm sort of working
in the dark here because you're not including the full error message.

The one email that won't send, is it stuck in the Outbox such that
you can't delete it? If so, you should try the WMUtil utility:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
When you download the file, be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extracted folder with two files in it. Run WMUtil.exe, and
click Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Before you start, make sure
Windows Mail is not running.

The only thing I left out were the actual email addresses for obvious
reasons.

I can move the email out of the outbox so that is no problem. I put it in
my drafts folder. Thanks for the help. Setting the authentication didn't
help either. I'll call Comcast tomorrow.
Thanks for trying,

I am also having a problem with my outgoing mail since yesterday. Before
then, everything was fine. I have one email that is stuck and I think that is
why my other emails haven't been able to go out. So I tried using
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/.
That did not help.
Do you have other suggestions?

A complete error message looks like this (note the presence of
the server name):

"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test Page', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Any error message when you used WMUtil? If that won't work,
your remaining options are quite limited.
If you don't feel comfortable doing the database deletion/regeneration
method that has been posted here numerous times, then your
only solution is to install and use a different email program.
Mozilla Thunderbird is free:

I was having the same problem with all originating email from my outlook and
do use comcast as well...
I would receive email just fine and reply and even add names to the reply
and that all worked fine for me...
I took the advice here and changed my smtp to 587 and my pop to 110 also
from the outgoing Server checked the smtp requires authentication and now all
is good. Funny thing about this is that I have only had the problem on my
Laptop and have not changed my main computer at home at all to these new
settings and it works just fine
