One annoying aspect of AVG7

Every time it updates, it then says email scanner is not active. I have to
then activate it.

Why does it do that?? It seems the program should recognize that it is
active and keep that setting after the update.

I am using the FREE edition.

It's only a minor annoyance (I also don't like the paperclip showing up on
every incoming email --- what's with that?)

The paperclip is the certification attachment. I heard about it from an OE
user. No other email clients mentioned it. I use Netscape email, it does
show as an attachment there but displays inline.

be grateful if you can let me know.

To get rid of the paperclip on incoming mail, go to "Configure" in E-mail
Scanner and uncheck "Certify mail" in E-mail scanning.

Aha, but if the sender certifies their mail, then I'm afraid the recipient
still has to put up with the paperclip attachment symbol.

What e-mail client are you using?
I recently upgraded from version 6.0 to 7.0 and it works OK. I did notice
that it only seems to scan MS Outlook. Version 6.0 could also scan Outlook
Express.

Version 7 does scan outlook express.

I just had that happen for the first time. It never happened before. I guess
time will tell if it happens again in future. Possibly mine was caused by a
utility I found that turns off all of the AVG processes on demand, for
example so it won't slow down game playing when offline. I usually
reactivate them before rebooting my computer, but didn't in this case.

As for the paperclip showing up, turn off certification of mail for
attachments. At least that's what I did. It will still show up when there is
an attachment, but it should in that case anyway.

I use OE 6.0

Well, folks, I guess I've gotten used to that stupid paper clip, so that no
longer bothers me.

Now... about the email scanning not working after every upgrade, I still
don't know how to stop that.

I guess you haven't worked out how to stop top posting either....

That would be a major part of the problem.
I strongly recommend Quicksilver (FreeWare)

Not really. The emails will still be Certified - it's just that they won't
say so in the emails, which may provide some reassurance to you and your
recipients.
