when i do CTRL+O and bring up the open menu, there is one URL in there that
just wont delete. i do clear history and internet files and that deletes
every other URL but one of them. i know i can turn autocomplete off and then
the drop menu wont come down so i wont see the URL, but i want to keep it on.
how can i get this one URL deleted?

Hi Tim :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Delete individual AutoComplete entries
http://www.ieinfosite.co.uk/tip_view.asp?id=6

and...

Delete an item in the History/Autocomplete

Close all instances of IE:

Go to Start>Run>type regedit (enter)

Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

Find the offending URL, select it, hit delete.

or....

To delete an item from the History in IE, click the History toolbar button
which will open the History list in the sidebar window, and you can right
click on any entry and select delete.

also..take a look here:

History Items Remain After Being Deleted from Cache
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q218966/

To delete an item in the AutoComplete list:

To remove an entry that is erroneous, outdated, or private, highlight it
using the Down Arrow (not the mouse) and press Shift + Delete.

The Index.dat may be damaged or corrupted. This is where information is
stored. You should delete this file and then reboot. A new one will be
created for you, and see if that will delete the file. Here is some
information on the Index.dat and how it works, and how to delete it.

I would also suggest that you eliminate any scumware that may be causing
this problem. It is possible that 3rd party software may be preventing the
file from being deleted. In addition to running your newly updated AV, run
the programs below in Safe Mode with Hidden Files enabled and follow all
instructions carefully:

WARNING>>>> Backup all documents and files before removing any spyware!!

Download and install BHODemon from
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm
Your problem may be caused by a bad BHO.

Most importantly, download install and run CWShredder here
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3019.html
and this program, which searches for hidden .dlls that recreate the malware.
About Buster:

Then visit these two sites to test for parasites and help basic cleaning:
On-Line Check
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm
and
Quick-Fix Protocol.
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.php
Basically, throw everything here at your "infection".

Then download, install and immediately update these two programs before
running:

AdAware SE - Update immediately after installing

SpyBot S &D - Update immediately after installing

Download pocket killbox from Download pocket killbox from
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe
and put it on the desktop where you can find it easily

Also download, install, and run HiJackThis - it is one of the very import
tools to clean your system of all scumware. Follow the instructions
carefully:
